Bicycles as new means of green transportation
  • MOPAS works closely with local communities on various projects including bicycle riding and the Green New Deal.
  • We foster bicycle riding culture with the upgrading of cycling environment such as safe bicycle riding campaigns, as well as provision of one-stop shops for bicycle repairs and maintenance.
  • The Ministry plans to reform cycling regulations in the areas of national bicycle registration system and standardization of bicycle facilities.
Building bicycle infrastructure
  • MOPAS supports building bicycle lanes and bicycle parking facilities in new development areas and tourist complexes.
  • By 2012, we aim to increase bicycle usage to 5%, expand bike paths to 17,600km, and boost bicycle ownership rate to 30%.

Establishing a nationwide bicycle road network
  • MOPAS is working in cooperation with other ministries to build bicycle lanes for convenient daily use along the coastlines and major cities.
  • The Ministry will invest in the bicycle policies with a 1 trillion won (approx. USD 0.8 billion) investment in establishing a total of 3,214km of bike lanes by 2019.
